Jani Hershberger '11 finds comfort & success in Heritage Bread Co.

Jani Hershberger '11 has found success in Heritage Bread Co., a home business she started thanks to word-of-mouth. Jani relies on local, natural ingredients to make her signature sourdough bread. Jani started her journey by trying to make better bread for her family, using a sourdough starter provided by her sister (who is now her sous chef). Soon after, she began to sell her extra loaves to local farmer's markets, and thus, a loyal base of customers was created.

Jani focuses on keeping her operations small, so customers receive the best product possible. Jani will even hand grind the grain she uses for her sourdough loaves and other products. She also utilizes several ancient grains to help make her bread as good as possible, but also making it quite unique too. COVID saw a boom for Heritage Bread Co. with convenient and easy porch pick-ups for Hershberger's goods. Jani now has a shed on her property known as the "bread shed" to help with the operations resulting from the growth during the pandemic. You can find Heritage Bread Co.'s menu on their Facebook page, where you can choose from a variety of products, such as pies or cookies. Hershberger will also deliver to Local Roots in Wooster, as well as Canton Importing to sell her goods.

To learn more about Jani, see the menu, or place an order, you can visit Heritage Bread Co's website here. We wish Jani nothing but continued success in her business endeavors.

Joelle (Rex) `10 and Craig Carnes `10

Joelle (Rex) `10 and Craig Carnes `10 Craig and I met at Malone in the Fall of 2005 as freshman members of the Pioneers Marching Band. Yes, we met at BAND CAMP! He was a boy from Cincinnati and I, a girl from Cleveland, from complete opposite ends of the state and here we were meeting in Canton, Ohio. We learned that we had both been at Malone's Scholar's Day event the year before but never saw each other! During our first year at MU we hung out with the same core group of friends all five of us were pretty inseparable. Our time together as a group was spent watching movies or playing games in the Barn, going to Late Night in the cafeteria especially on nugget night, playing ping pong in the lounge of Gurney (PGB) or Froggy's, watching American Idol in dorms, or making trips to Taco Bell. Band and chorale were the major social outlets for both of us and being in such frequent company made it easy to grow fond of each other. We began dating the summer after our freshma...
