After a car accident, he was told he’d never walk again. Brian shares hat true redemption comes from Jesus no matter what you may face in life.

Theresa Callahan '08

Theresa Callahan '08 is Staff Assistant at The Duke Molecular and Physiology Institute in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. The Institute plays an integral leadership role in the Global HIV/AIDS Vaccine Enterprise and is a pioneer in emerging infections and biodefense research.

Andrea Legg '04

Andrea Legg ('04)'s debut children's picture book, "Flap Your Wings, Little Robin" (Mascot Books) will release to major retailers on February 6, 2018. Andrea is currently employed as an extension manager at the Tuscarawas County Public Library System and has been married to Josh Legg ('04) since 2010. Their son, Donovan, just turned four. Bethany Nicole Taylor '09

Bethany Nicole Taylor '09 received the BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS award at Atlantic City Cinefest. Taylor is an actor, singer/song writer, improviser, puppeteer, and trumpet player based in Brooklyn, New York. Bethany is a frequent actor in Amios Theatre Company 's SHOTZ, is a Eugene O'Neill Theater Center NTI alum, she holds an acting certificate from the St. Petersburg Theatre Arts Academy in Russia, and is an alum of the Peoples Improv Theater in Manhattan. In 2017, she was also awarded BEST ACTRESS at the Grove Film Festival and Brghtside Tavern Film Festival.

David Johns '85

Dr. David Johns ’85 has been named president of Ferrum College in Virginia. Johns, currently the vice president for academic affairs at Union College in Kentucky, will become Ferrum’s 12th president on January 1, 2018. He earned a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Earlham School of Religion, a Master of Library and Information Sciences from Kent State University and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Duquesne University.

Kathleen Trissel '84

Kathleen A. Trissel ’84 is the author of Waiting for Grace: How to Make the Most of Your Suffering . She has years of experience as a counselor in the mental health field. The book was written to offer comfort and hope to people suffering from emotional and mental disorders. She has been published in a variety of publications including The Lookout, Prison Fellowship’s Inside Journal, Breakthrough Intercessor, Psychology for Living, Alive Now, and Light and Life Magazine. Kathleen also serves as a National Speaker with Daughters of Destiny, a ministry that goes into women’s prisons throughout the United States.

Russell Shaffer '01

Russell Shaffer ’01 was named chair of The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), a national nonprofit that creates a world of no limits for people with vision loss. Shaffer was director of Global Culture, Diversity & Inclusion at Walmart at their national headquarters and is responsible for brand strategy, outreach and benchmarking. He has been there for nearly 12 years. He has served two terms as chair of Walmart’s Advocates for Disability Awareness and Education (ADAE) resource group, and has been a board member of Sources for Community Independent Living in Fayetteville, Ark. since 2012. Shaffer graduated with honors from Malone and majored in business administration and communication arts. He lives in Rogers, Ark. with his wife, Jessica, and their children, Sophia and Brady.   ​​

Hannah Finley '14

Hannah Finley '14 - Finley moved to Charleston, South Carolina and is the Development Coordinator for Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach. She'll be handling events and marketing for the nonprofit.Hannah opened the door for Malone as our first intern at Pathway Caring for Children, which subsequently has been a great internship site for 8 students! She also interned at Habitat for Humanity and at Grabowski & Company who hired her full-time after graduation.

Andrew Ledebur '11

Andrew Ledebur '11 - Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Ltd., which has offices in Warren, Youngstown and Salem, added  Andrew S. Ledebur  as an associate attorneysin the firm. Ledebur graduated from the University of Akron School of Law. D Ledebur works in HHM’s Warren office.Ledebur, in addition to his juris doctor with a certificate in health law, earned a master’s of business administration from the University of Akron’s College of Business Administration. He earned his bachelor of arts from Malone University, Canton, where he graduated cum laude. He worked as a law clerk for staff counsel at the Cincinnati Insurance Co. in Akron, was a health law research assistant at the law school and was a legal intern with MRI Software in Solon.

Scott Glasgow '14 is the founder of a non-profit called FinMango . Involved are fellow Malone alumni  Steffan Dwarkasingh '15 and Oscar Whaltinez '13. FinMango is a  non-profit organization on a mission to empower & educate lives with innovative financial solutions. We have established financial education programs/operations in Tijuana, Mexico; Lome, Togo; and locally in Northeast, Ohio, all of which have seen proven and measured success. Lillian Morphew ’13

Lillian Morphew ’13 studied what it takes to save species in the wild and engage with local partners developing and testing site-specific methods of community engagement to sustain ecological and social health in Hawaii the summer of 2017. Lillian, an animal caretaker at The Oasis Sanctuary in Benson, Ariz., took the graduate course in pursuit of her master's degree from Miami University's Advanced Inquiry Program.

Stephney (Jenkins) Fanning '03

Stepheny (Jenkins) Fanning '03 recently received the Office of Law Enforcement-Federal Air Marshal (OLE-FAMS) Director's Award, the highest award that non-law enforcement personnel can receive within the agency. Ms. Fanning proactively identified and implemented practices and procedures to ensure mission readiness throughout the nomination period.    

Aiden John Rozko

A son, Aiden John Rozko on Feb 26, 2017 to Amy (Garrington) 'and J.R. Rozko '01. Aiden joins two older sisters, Aubrey and Junia. The Rozkos live in Canton.

Kara Wenger '07

Kara Wenger '07 is Director of Residence Life and Student Accountability at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Palm Beach, Florida. She started at Palm Beach Atlantic as a resident director and was also the assistant director of Residence Life. Wenger graduated from Ashland Theological Seminary in 2010 with a master of arts in Clinical Counseling and Pastoral Counseling. Pioneer fans will remember Kara as a member of the women's soccer teams 2003-2006.

Seth Byrd '17

Seth Byrd '17 is a news reporter for The Herald Chronicle in Winchester, Tennessee. Byrd lives in the city of Cowan. He wrote, "I appreciate the impact Malone is having on my career and post college life."

Lin McDowell '96

Lin McDowell, '96, was recently hired as the news director for AVC Communications in Cambridge, Ohio, after spending three years as news anchor/reporter for powerhouse radio station News/Talk 1110 WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina. AVC Communications is a cluster of six radio stations covering a six county area in southeastern Ohio.

Sarah Stevens '15

Sarah Stevens 15 has accepted a promotion as the assistant director of nursing at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake.  Stevens has been with the facility since graduating from Malone University.

Jonathan Davis '16

Jonathan Davis '16 has joined the Ohio Army National Guard as a Cannon Crewmember. He recently accepted a full-time position in the Lakewood City School District (OH) as a general education preschool teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School.

Laurel Weir Mundell '12, '13

Laurel Weir Mundell '12, '13 is the soprano intern with the Kansas City Lyric Opera. She was featured on the cover of Kansas City's "Journal of Society." Laurel returns to Malone as part of the Faculty Artist Series next Monday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Barn!She returns to Malone as part of the Faculty Artist Series on Monday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Barn/Randall Campus Center.

Scott Armstrong '73

Dr. Scott Armstrong '73 retired in May from Olivet Nazarene University (IL), where he served as Chair and Professor of the Department of Exercise and Sports Science and Associate Athletic Director. Scott and his wife, Susan, former Malone University Chorale Director and Professor plan to move to Columbus, OH, to be near grandchildren.

Naomi Bosler '14 and Zack Grucza

Naomi (Bosler) '14 and Zack Grucza were married on June 10, 2017. Naomi and Zack live in Denver, Colorado.

Laura (Steer) Rees '09

Laura (Steer) Rees '09 was recently named the writer-in-residence at the Boston Public Library, a prestigious award in a competitive field. She has worked as a scribe, editor, ghostwriter, and creative writing instructor. Rees received a B.A. in English from Malone and is in a Master’s degree program in Creative Writing & Literature at Harvard University. She is the daughter of Malone alumni Steve & Sheila Steer.

Rich Rankin '12

Rich Rankin '12 is the new Director of the United Auto Workers Region 2B. With about 70,000 active members across Ohio and Indiana, Region 2B is the largest of the UAW’s nine regions. Rankin is an Organizational Management degree alumnus. Read more.

Hannah Kelley '09

Hannah Kelley '09 is the Associate Director of STAR (Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience) at Eastern Mennonite University's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding. The program trains people all over the world, using a framework that brings together conflict transformation, human security, spirituality, and restorative justice to address trauma and prevent escalating cycles of violence. Amanda Tietze '09

Amanda Tietze '09 is now Vice President of Operations at the Better Business Bureau of Canton & Greater West Virginia. She has been in public relations and marketing at the BBB® since 1999 and was previously the VP of West Virginia Divsion & Public Relations. An active community leader, Tietze is President of the Canton Rotary Club.

Pioneers on Galion Graders Collegiate Team

Malone University is well represented on the 2017 Galion Graders Collegiate team.  Standing with alumnus & Malone Trustee LaMar Wyse is Taylore Baker, manager, who is also a Malone alumnus. Malone players on the team are (R to L): Matt Noel, Zach Mottice, Christian Specht, and Joe Crank. Kyle Kovach (pitcher) had to leave the team due to injury. The team is part of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

Kevin Williams '04

Kevin Williams '04 is the new director of residence life and restorative justice coordinator at Bluffton University in Lima, Ohio. Williams earned a master's degree in Higher Education Administration in 2010 from the University of Akron. He is married to Kari (Hill) '05 and they have three children.  

Quinn Parker '11

Quinn Parker '11 is the 2017 Chair of ystark!, the young professional branch of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. Parker is an associate with GDK & Co. He joined ystark! in 2012 and has served as Chair of the Golf Outing. Parker is a Pioneer golf alumnus. He is married to Marissa and they live in Canton with sons, Paxton and Gabriel. In his spare time, Parker continues to be an avid golfer and is the head golf coach at Hoban High School in Akron.

Scott Finkelstein '09 and Candace Butler

Scott Finkelstein ’09 and Candace Lynn Butler were married June 3, 2017.  Scott and Candace are both employed with CrossCountry Mortgage.  The couple lives in Brunswick.

Tyler Wentz '15

Tyler Wentz '15 has been promoted to Business Strategy Analyst for the Florida Panthers in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Wentz continues to be the Network Coordinator for Radio (English & Spanish). He began his career with the Panthers as an activation and analytics coordinator for corporate partnerships in June, 2015.

Hannah Fisher '17 is an Audit Associate at CliftonLarsonAllen, a professional services firm delivering integrated wealth advisory, outsourcing, and public accounting capabilities. While at Malone, Fisher completed an internship with Rea & Associates, Inc. in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Mike Hecht '04

Mike Hecht '04 is Global Sales Marketing Director at CWP Technologies,a Scott-Fetzer/Berkshire Hathaway Company in Cleveland. Mike earned a bachelor of arts in Business Management and was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.

Nathan Williams '11

Nathan Williams '11 is an underwriter for Allstate Insurance in Canton. He is also a team and leadership trainer at Coyote Training and Leadership where he designs and facilitates experiences to promote organizational, and individual health. Williams is a facilitator and trainer at The Summit USA providing training on the proper use and safety protocols for high and low ropes courses.

Holly Reiber '10

Holly Reiber '10 has accepted a job offer to teach art in Xiamen, China. Reiber will be moving to China in August and plans to live and work there for two  years.

Jack Christopher Garwood

A son, Jack Christopher Garwood, to David '11 and Rachel (Keim) Garwood '13 on May 12, 2017. The Garwoods write, "Jack joined his older sister, Lillian Garwood, who is also a fellow future Pioneer."

John Williams '82

John Williams ’82, of Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL International, along with his wife Judy, has worked with the people of Ayutla Mixtec,(Guerrero, Mexico) for the past 9 years. On March 18, 2017, the people celebrated the publication of the New Testament in their heart language and the Williams helped to organize the celebration. SIL personnel and various speakers of the language have worked toward this goal since 1960. Audio players of the recording of the New Testament were also distributed. The Ayutla area is one of the most monolingual places in all of Mexico, Mixtec and very little if any Spanish spoken among the people living in the mountains. John and Judy worked together with the Tezoatlan (Oaxaca) Mixtec people for 22 years, and the publication of that New Testament was celebrated in 2008.

Kevin Rohr '99

Kevin Rohr '99 is the pastor of Woolson Friends and Pleasant Plain Friends Churches in the Brighton, Iowa area. He is married to Malone alumna Jody (Rinker) and they have five children Kayla, Megan, Levi, KJ, and John David.

The Reverend Father Lawrence McElrath '13

The Reverend Father Lawrence McElrath '13 was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Hudson, Ohio on May 27, 2017. He graduated with a Master of Divinity/Ministry degree from Nashotah House, an Anglo-Catholic seminary in Nashotah, Wisconsin. Lawrence and his wife, Megan (McAbee) '13 live in Akron.
