Carol Bushong '85

Carol Bushong '85 passed peacefully on May 4, 2026, surrounded by the gentle love and care of her family, returning in eternal peace to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Carol viewed every day as a gift from God. She built a meaningful career through her work at Aultman Hospital, doctor's offices, and a nursing school, while also completing her education at Malone College. Upon graduating, Carol immersed herself in the Deaf community. She didn't just learn American Sign Language (ASL)-she lived the culture and connected through sign to share the depth of her faith. Her ministry blossomed when she became an ordained minister and a founding member of "The Believers," a Christian music group that traveled across churches. Carol's capacity for selfless work seemed almost boundless. She masterfully managed full-time responsibilities at Aultman Hospital while simultaneously leading her spiritual calling of The Believers, and later serving as Associate Pastor and Senior Pastor of the United Gospel Tabernacle in Canton, Ohio. Carol made an immeasurable impact on every life she touched.  Our prayers are with Carol's family and friends during this difficult time; that the comfort and peace of Christ would surround them just as Carol is fully at peace and in all comfort with our Savior. Jennifer (Tubaugh) `94 `01 and Jason Bruce `96

Jennifer (Tubaugh) `94 `01 and Jason Bruce  `96 While we were both originally from Ohio, we grew up on opposite sides of the state. At Malone, Steve Styer, a mutual friend, convinced Jason to call me. He was sure we were a match! I had noticed Jason across the cafeteria multiple times, so I was pretty excited to get that call! Our first date was spent hanging out in The Barn chatting the evening away. We were together from that point on! Whenever Steve saw us together, he would say, "Ahhhh my creation!" We've been married for 27 1/2 years and have a beautiful 17 year old daughter. I'm so thankful that Steve gave Jason that little nudge to get things started.
