John Wesley Morris '53


John Wesley Morris '53, at the age of 96, met Jesus Christ, His Lord and Savior, face to face on Saturday, May 23, 2026. John was born May 12, 1930 to Everett and Delphia [Galien] Morris and graduated in 1953 from Cleveland Bible College. He married Phyllis Jean Detweiler on August 31, 1951 and together they served as pastor and wife at Deep River Friends, Deep River, IA; Millville Friends, Washingtonville, OH; Trinity Friends, Van Wert, OH; First Friends, Mansfield, OH; Hughesville Friends, Hughesville, PA; Beloit Friends, Beloit, OH; Rollin Friends, Addison, MI. He also served as interim pastor at Stony Creek Brethren, Pleasant Valley United Brethren Church, and Springfield Friends, all in Ohio. John worked maintenance at Cleveland Bible College for a time to supplement his income. He was a member at Mt. Carmel Friends Church, where he served as greeter, Elder of Spiritual Life, and Elder of Stewardship.

Our condolences are with John's friends and family; even as we grieve here on earth, we rejoice that John is now with his Savior and his reunited with his wife, daughter, and other loved ones.

At Malone, Steve Styer, a mutual friend, convinced Jason to call me. He was sure we were a match! I had noticed Jason across the cafeteria multiple times, so I was pretty excited to get that call!
